Halloween Brings Buckets of Love!

Halloween is such an amazing and fun time of year! For adults and kids, alike. Spider webs on mailboxes, carving jack-o-lanterns, and lots & lots of candy!

For us at On My Own, it was extra SWEET this year with our “buckets of love” event. It was an amazing day filled with so much happiness and love! It genuinely made a lot of adults with possibilities very happy!

We did a “reverse” trick or treat and delivered 400 “buckets of love” to adults with disabilities. They were overflowing with chocolates and tasty treats, but our main mission was to spread love, encouragement, and support. All that yumminess was an added bonus! Nova Southeastern University students created all those buckets of Halloween love, and they were very appreciated by all who received them.

Thank you all, for our Halloween event

We would like to thank all who made Halloween “buckets of love” a reality. We know it takes a village and we are very appreciative! Everyone’s help and generosity made this an amazing and SPOOK-tacular event! It brought so much happiness, laughter, and excitement! It truly was truly S-W-E-E-T!

A special thank you to the Sanctuary Church of Fort Lauderdale for hosting and supporting the event, Harbour View House, the Rotary Club of Fort Lauderdale/Cypress Creek for providing sweet treats for stuffing, to Showering Love for donating the hygiene items for the buckets to promote independence, to Homeless Hearts for sharing the Disney-themed buckets, to our generous facebook family and friends, and to the student club organization of Nova Southeastern University for volunteering! Teamwork makes the dreamwork! On My Own is forever grateful and we think all of you are super GHOUL!

On My Own was also honored to share 75 buckets of love with an incredible nonprofit in Palm Beach County serving adults with possibilities. ICARE facilitates sea turtle rescues for adults with disabilities, and are now the proud recipients of Halloween buckets of treats. Also, special thanks to Make A Tee Online for donating 400 logo stickers! We appreciate your support so much!

Halloween looks SCARY in 2020

With Halloween coming up in a few days, we are reminded of our new normal and how different the holiday season will look for all of us this year. During these unprecedented times, people are coming up with very innovative and entertaining ways to be safe, social distance, and continue to enjoy the traditions that come along with this fun and magical holiday. One filled with fantasy and everything mystical. Candy, dressing up, trick or treating, and haunted houses. But, this year it seems more like a scene out of a horror movie than a celebration, right?

Adults with Possibilities

But, it doesn’t have to be. Life is what we make it and we can choose to enjoy all the traditions we’ve created, even though they may look a little different this year. It’s actually a great opportunity for us to make new traditions and memories. Although very different than all the years past, we can collectively and creatively make a bigger and positive impact.

If there was ever a time that we all needed to join together… it would be now! Together, we can make a difference with our friends and family, as well as our community and everyone around us. This Halloween should look different because it is very different than it has ever been and probably will ever be. Like nothing, we’ve ever seen before. So, let’s make it unique for all. Let’s get involved and help those adults with disabilities in every way we can. Whether it be making a donation, volunteering, or even a virtual visit. On My Own can help you help them!

Reverse “trick or treat” this Halloween

Our “reverse” trick-or-treat event really struck a chord with me, and hear me out… How incredible would it be to turn things around and do things just a little differently this year? The opposite of what we always have. Maybe even giving instead of receiving.

Halloween Buckets of Love

This is Halloween is the perfect time to begin new traditions, especially to benefit our younger children and adolescents. It’s time to show that we can make it through tough times by giving and working together. That’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? We can still have an amazing Halloween filled with monster mashes and zombies. However, it’s also a perfect time and opportunity to get involved, volunteer, and give to others. Especially, those adults with disabilities that need our help and are faced with more challenges than ever.

Everyone deserves an opportunity. Let’s lend a helping hand, break the spell, and make this Halloween a very special one for everyone. I promise… it will be a THRILLER!

Don’t BAT an eye & please donate to those that are in the SHADOWS and need your help!
